Hello and welcome to the first Talking Spirits blog. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on spiritual matters, be it, the spirit realm, connecting with spirit, psychic guidance, and spiritual awareness, to name a few, all under the umbrella of spirituality. If you have any aspect of this topic you’d like me to talk about, please let me know. But what is spirituality?
Maya Spencer of the Royal Collage of Psychiatrists in 2012 give her definition: “Spirituality involves the recognition of a feeling or sense or belief that there is something greater than myself, something more to being human than sensory experience, and that the greater whole of which we are part is cosmic or divine in nature.” Which is the perfect way to describe what it is but how does that translate to the everyday? My first, clear-cut, example of “something greater that myself” occurred when I was fifteen. I was playing football at school and my team was losing and I preferred to win. It was cold and frosty but I didn’t mind as I loved playing football, however, that meant the ground was hard and when I strode forward to pass the ball back to one of my teammates, my left leg caught the ground and down I went. I’ve never experienced pain like it or since. I had broken my leg and I was screaming in agony, that was until I heard a calm voice, outside of myself but close to my left ear, say, “laugh and the pain will go away.” I knew it wasn’t another boy as they had continued playing. In fact one boy trotted past and said “get up Ken, grass stains don’t hurt”. It wasn’t the teacher as he was on the other pitch. I was still calling out in pain when the voice repeated the message. Suddenly I stopped screaming and a calmness came over me. I started laughing and the pain did indeed go away. Luckily I was then rushed to hospital and my leg was fixed. So who or what was the voice telling me to laugh? I have often wondered. All I can think of, and all that makes sense, is it was my guardian angel. What I do know is it was “something greater that myself”. Spirituality for me, is something that I’ve never tried to prove to anyone else. I believe it is only when a person experiences ‘spirituality’ for themselves that they start to believe. I’ve had a number of incidents that are hard to explain before I started my training to become a psychic medium, incidents that seemed to help and reassure people, as somehow I knew things about that person that was hard to explain other than my spirit guide told me. That’s when I wondered if I was going mad! Hearing voices, knowing things I couldn’t possibly know, all lead me further into exploring the spiritual aspect of my life. Ultimately I know I wasn’t going mad, in fact, quite the opposite: connecting with spirit seemed natural, part of who I am. We are spiritual beings that are curious about the bigger, wider questions of life and by exploring and connecting with the spiritual realm, each in our own time, and in our own way, we can achieve a greater understanding of who we are and “that the greater whole of which we are part is cosmic or divine in nature”. May your spirits guide you wisely. Ken Boyter Psychic Medium References: To read the full essay ‘What is spirituality?
